Eye Candy #242 - "National Treasure Book of Secrets"

National Treasure Book of Secrets: Even more mind-numbing than the original (and somehow they managed to make me care even less about the characters than before). Perhaps I'm just tired of seeing Nicholas Cage in a slew of lousy movies and would just prefer to see him the occasional good film. But from my own reckoning, he hasn't been in a good film since "Lord of War" and "Adaptation", so maybe he's due (I'm not holding my breath). He's back again as treasure hunter Benjamin Gates, out to exonerate the reputation of his ancestor with possible culpability in the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. This leads him around the world in search of the City of Gold. All the usual gang is back (Justin Bartha, Jon Voight, Diane Kruger, with Helen Mirren and the immortal Bruce Greenwood thrown in for good measure), but it's complete mindless pap. I think the part that bothers me most - the blase historical lessons blithely thrown around in every film. Woodchuck sez, "Not really worth it."
