Eye Candy #243 - "Jackie Chan's The Myth"

Jackie Chan’s The Myth: As Jackie Chan has gotten older, his movies have gotten more and more “fantastic”, involving elements of fantasy and sci-fi, and “The Myth” fits that mold (just like “The Medallion” , “The Forbidden Kingdom, and “The Tuxedo”, to name a few others).  I don’t know why Mr. Chan has decided to go this route (perhaps it’s a stab at the legitimacy of movies like “Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon” have experienced that he’s been removed from).  Chan plays two roles here, that of Qin dynasty general Meng Yi and modern-day artifact hunter Dr. Jack Chan (what an imaginative name).  Dr. Jack has been having visions where he is reliving portions of the life of Meng Yi, who is tasked with protecting the emporer’s bride-to-be, Ook-soo.  Wrap that also into a plot involving pieces of meterorite that allows levitation, a search for the hidden Emperor’s tomb, and you get “The Myth”.  Certainly not the worst Jackie Chan movie on the planet (that’s still  “The Prisoner” followed by “The Medallion”), but no great shakes either.  Director Stanley Tong also gave us “Rumble in the Bronx” and the “Supercop” movies.  Woodchuck sez, “Fans will like it, most others will be under whelmed.”
