Eye Candy #189 - "The Quest" (The Damme #5)

The Quest:  In my efforts to view more of the Damme’s oeuvre, I decided to rent this one solely off of comments I read that Roger Moore, who co-stars in this movie, consider this film the worst of his career (and he was in “Moonraker”, so that’s saying something). This film also happens to be the Damme’s directorial debut. In this one, the Damme is Chris Dubois, a street criminal in New York, sort of a Fagin with a heart of gold, who leads a little army of street urchin pickpockets. He runs afoul of both the police and the local criminal element and soon finds himself, against his will, on a ship to Asial. He finds himself enslaved by pirates, but then “rescued” by Lord Dobbs (Roger Moore), who sees Dubois’ fighting prowess, and sells him to an Asian martial arts trainer, to prepare Chris to participate in a Tibetan martial arts tournament where a champion from each country fights to win a golden dragon statue. James Remar co-stars in an utterly thankless role. Doofy in the extreme, this is the worst of the Damme’s movies I’ve ever seen (and considering how bad some of them were, that ain’t good). The plot is dumb, the acting dumber, the fights nothing to write home about (the Damme, in one movie, has used up his slo-mo quotient) and it’s overall a complete waste of time. Woodchuck sez, “Roger Moore was right.”
