Eye Candy #188 - "I Love You Man"
I Love You Man: Maybe I’m just getting too jaded, but usually when I see Paul Rudd in a movie, I think more “Superbad” than I do “Cider House Rules”. So it came as a pleasant surprise that “I Love You, Man” was, for all its sex talk, not particularly raunchy. Rudd is Peter Klaven, a young real estate agent on the rise who just proposed to his girlfriend Zooey (Rashida Jones). However, as they are putting their wedding party together, Peter realizes that he doesn’t have any close guy friends to stand with him and decides to rectify the situation, by hanging out with a variety of guys with a variety of negative outcomes ranging from projectile vomiting to man-on-man kissing. A chance meeting at an open house he is running at Lou Ferrigno’s mansion, and Peter meets Sydney Fife (Jason Segel). And thus a bromance is born out of their mutual love of fine finger foods, the prog-rock band Rush, and platonic male companionship. Funny but not crude, I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop and have the rug pulled out from underneath is, but it never happened. In the supporting cast, we have Adam Bamberg, Jaime Pressly, Jon Favreau, Jane Curtin, and the always fun J.K. Simmons. Fun, but not remarkable, it’s a solid 3 ½ stars. Woodchuck sez, “Worth a look.”
