Eye Candy #138 - "Superhero Movie"

Superhero Movie: Periodically my boss takes me out to movies. Usually we end up in vampire movies, I don’t know why. But he decided this past Friday that we needed to have a “meeting” at the movies. This go-around we went with “Superhero Movie” because it was showing at a convenient time. The latest in an apparently never ending stream of wildly bad “spoof” movies (I use “spoof” loosely because I don’t want to give those films too much credit), this one sends up (or at least advertises sending up) superhero films like “Spider-man”, but it really only touches on four films - Spider-man, X-Men, Fantastic Four, and an itty-bitty piece of Batman. That’s it. Rick Riker is a your average bumbling high school kid afflicted by the various stereotypical superhero problems and comic book cliches - he’s clumsy, he lusts after the pretty girl, he gets picked on by the school bully. Then one day he’s bitten by a mutated dragonfly, and the Dragonfly is born! Throw in butt jokes, fart jokes, genital jokes, and a slew of unfunny schtick...and you have the absolute groaner that is “Superhero Movie”. I laughed twice in the entire 90 minute duration. TWICE. So it means I laughed twice more than I laughed during “Epic Movie”, so it’s got that going for it. We’ve got spoof stalwart Leslie Nielsen here, along with several other actors that deserve better. I hope beyond hope that they don’t make any more of these. Woodchuck sez, “ My boss apologized for suggesting we go. I may forgive him.”
