Eye Candy #137 - "Riki-Oh - The Story of Ricky"

Riki-Oh - The Story of Ricky: I don’t have a ton of Asian violent silliness in my own personal movie collection, but those that I do I feel are exceptional. “Riki-Oh” is epitome of the over-the-top chop-socky flick. Seriously, the plot here is woefully secondary to just plain absurd violence. The gist - in the far-off year of 2001, prisons are taken over by corrupt private corporations. In one such prison, enters Ricky, serving a 10 year prison sentence for killing a man responsible for the death of his girlfriend. The prison is run by a warden with a hook for a hand, a fake eyeball containing breath mints, and a giant wall of porn in his office. That right there should be enough to sit up and take notice. He is served by the Gang of Four, 4 killers who do his dirty work and each control a wing of the prison. And into their sights lands Ricky, even though he wants nothing to do with their prison-run opium ring. Ricky fights all of them in battles punctuated by equal doses of gore, carnage, and goofiness. For examples: 1.) one man tries to strangle Ricky with HIS OWN INTESTINES after disemboweling himself in shame; 2.) Ricky manages to cause one man’s eyeball to explode out of his head by hitting him on the back of his skull; 3.) Ricky sews his arm back together using his own sinews and teeth; And that’s just ONE. FIGHT. There is no possible way to take this movie seriously, yet at the same time, it is immensely entertaining in its own special way. Woodchuck sez, “Check it out.”
