Eye Candy #139 - "Walk Hard - The Dewey Cox Story"

Walk Hard - The Dewey Cox Story: The first hour of this movie is some of the funniest, lampooning comedy I've seen in a while. Seriously. I laughed out loud. A LOT. John C. Reilly, finally acknowledged for his work on "Talladega Nights" and other films, gets his own silly comedy to headline as Dewey Cox, who is part Elvis, part Glen Campbell, part Johnny Rotten, part Roy Orbison, and part Jerry Lee Lewis. He's a rock icon of the 60's, 70's, and 80's, with a career that goes up and down like a roller coaster. We see his upbringing on a farm in Alabama and the reason he became a musical star (at age 14), his first two wives, his 22 children, his band members, the Beatles, his battles with drug addiction, infidelity, drug addiction, waning popularity, drug addiction, how he doesn't know his own kids, and finally, his drug addiction. Starts to drag a bit towards the last half hour, but John C. Reilly does a great job with this film, ably supported by Jenna Fischer as his second wife Darlene. Best musical moment: their duet titled "Let's Du-et", which is full of the most double entendres and sexual doublespeak as I have heard in many a moon. NOT for kids, but very funny. I enjoyed this movie. Woodchuck sez, "Me likey. Me buying it."
