Eye Candy #126 - "Paranormal Activity"
Paranormal Activity: Uber-low budget horror movie (reportedly made for $15k), about a young couple who film the supernatural goings-on in their home, shot a la “Blair Witch” style, with ‘found footage” detailing their efforts to record the escalating inexplicable activities in their house over the course of 20 some odd days and nights. Not for the gore and viscera horror crowd, this film builds up the suspense with bumps in the night, moving objects, and shadow, as the events recorded increase in intensity and intent (much like “Blair Witch“). Helmed by a first time director, this film is bare bones, low-tech, devoid of the usual Hollywood special effects budget, doesn’t deviate from formula much, yet at the same time, is very effective. The DVD I watched had 2 of the 3 endings on it. I prefer the “original ending” to the alternate. Glad movies like this come along that show you don’t have to have a $300 million budget to take a film that audiences will respond to (it’s supposed to have made over $141 million at the box office, so it certainly resonates with somebody). Me likey. Woodchuck sez, “Worth a look.”
