Eye Candy #83 - "The Comebacks"

The Comebacks: "The Comebacks" works hard to earn its two stars, and compared to other movies of the same spoof-y genre, it managed to pry some laughs out of me. Let me qualify that by saying this is not, by far, the best, better, or even a good spoof movie. And then let me qualify that by saying so few are ("Naked Gun", "Airplane") that most of its chaff with the deck stacked against it to begin with. And I have seen WORSE spoofs than "The Comebacks" (and it rhymes with "Bepic Smoothie"). I wish that David Koechner could find better vehicles to headline (that could just be because he looks a lot like my boss...or my boss looks like him, whatever). He's like a comedy Midas - he turns everything he touches into comedy gold...provided he's only in a supporting role. "The Comebacks" sends up just about every single sports movie it can get its hands on from "Radio" to "Rudy" to "Lucas" (ha! sending it way back there), and some of the send-ups are pretty clever (I do like the "Radio" send-up, the character Ipod). Some aren't. But it's a comedy, I laughed, so in that respect, mission accomplished. Would I own or see this movie again? Absolutely not.
