Eye Candy #76 - "Fired Up!"

Fired Up!: Rented this because I thought it would be a slight sex comedy about cheerleading (what’s one more?) and ended up being pleasantly surprised the film. Two lothario football players (played by Nicholas D’Agosta and Eric Olsen) decide to go to cheerleadering camp to score with the wimmens that will be there. They get themselves on to a team, and along the way they stop being shallow, superficial jocks and learn about life, love, friendship, loyalty, and all that other crap. I laughed A LOT at this movie, a great deal more than I expected to. For a sex comedy, it’s remarkably tame, not really raunchy, with no nudity and a little gay Indian guy that almost steals the entire picture. What it does have is some of the best dialogue in a film this year. It’s got wit, people! WIT! And quotable! This film should have been released late spring/early summer (who releases a cheerleader movie in the dead of winter?) and it should have killed at the box office. Sure, it makes cheerleaders seem more vapid than normal humans, but by crikey, it’s a comedy, people! It’s not real! I’d give it 3 ½ stars if I could. Woodchuck sez, “Check it out.”
