Eye Candy #61 - "The Prodigy"

The Prodigy: A low-budget thriller that’s better than it has any right to be. Truman is a low-level flunkie who finds himself face-to-face with a professional assassin named Rains (from Claude Rains, who played the Invisible Man). At a criminal enterprise gone wrong, he and Rains go toe-to-toe in a brutal onscreen fight, with Rains coming out ahead. Rains takes an unhealthy interest in Truman, seeing him as his successor and protégé. This is also equally unhealthy for Truman’s friends as Rains does everything in his power to goad Truman into going over the edge. Directed by nobody you know, starring nobody you know, the plot is solid (it doesn’t answer every question it raises, but most seldom do), the fight choreography is top-notch and graphic, and it held my interest. Can’t ask for more than that, really. Woodchuck sez, “Worth a look.”
