Eye Candy #245 - "Fracture"

Fracture: A "legal" thriller that manages to spend remarkably little time actually in the courtroom or dealing with the judicial process. Anthony Hopkins stars as Ted Crawford, who attempts to murder his philandering wife and then confounds the authorities' attempts to convict him. Ryan Gosling is a young, cocky attorney (aren't they all?) who, on the eve of joining a prestigious firm, takes on the case, believing that it's open and shut. However, soon he realizes he's over his head against Crawford, who has planned two steps ahead of everyone else. I have to admit, I liked this movie. Ryan Gosling is growing on me (he's turned in some good performances to date; check out "The Believer"). Hopkins is an odd fit, but every time I see Hopkins as the "bad guy", I compare him to Hannibal Lector and his other "bad" performances pale in comparison. Billy Burke, David Strathairn, and Rosamund Pike also star. Odd bit of casting - Embeth Davidtz, who is a fantastic actress, gets the throw-away role of the comatose wife. Woodchuck sez, "Worth a look."
