Eye Candy #229 - "Bolt"

Bolt:  Or more appropriately “That Darn Hamster”.  Bolt (voiced by John Travolta) is the star of his own TV show, but lives in an insulated world away from reality.  He thinks he has super-powers, can use his “super bark”, and shoot lasers from his eyes, just like the show.  And apparently everyone knows Bolt is delusional except Bolt.  So when he escapes from his handlers for the show, he’s got a lot to learn about what is real and what ain’t.  Finding himself accidentally in New York, he finds himself partnered with an alley cat named Mittens and an over-zealous, TV-addicted hamster named Rhino, as they travel cross-country back to La-La-Wood so that Bolt can be reunited with his co-star and person, Penny (voiced by Miley Cyrus).  The star of the film, regardless of the title, is Rhino, who steals every scene he’s in and darn near steals the film, so kudos to Mark Walton for giving Rhino a voice.  Many parts of the film feel like film industry in-jokes (particularly the greasy agent character), but the overall message is positive, about friendship and love, and the film has good energy.  Not a great film, but certainly entertaining.  Woodchuck sez, “Check it out.”
