Eye Candy #20 - "The Emperor's Naked Army Marches On"

The Emperor’s Naked Army Marches On: A fascinating documentary both for what it is about and who it involves. Kenzo Okuzaki, the focus of the film, may very well have been insane. He'd done time in prison for attempting to assassinate the emperor, was an avowed rabble-rouser with giant speakers on his little mini-bus, had no problem fighting old men hand-to-hand (he himself being an old man), and was as tenacious as a dog on a bone. He takes it upon himself to find members of Japanese army units that operated in New Guinea during WW2, and ask them about claims involving Japanese soldiers committing cannibalism on both the native population as well as each other. He's confrontational, rude, cantankerous, and responds to insults by punching people in the face...and yet, just when you think he's barking up the wrong tree, he manages to get several mild-mannered, elderly Japanese men to admit on camera that indeed they DID eat their fellow soldiers to survive. So let's hear it for the power of crazy! A little slow-going at times and not for all tastes, but if you're looking for something unconventional watch, here it is. Woodchuck sez, "Check it out."
