Eye Candy #186 - "Shutter"

Shutter: Yet another entry in the “They Only Kill Americans!” new-Asian-horror-cum-American-remake trend.  We’ve had haunted houses, haunted videotapes, haunted subways, haunted cellphones…and now haunted cameras.   A pair of newlyweds traveling in Japan (the husband is a fashion photographer on assignment).  While driving one night, they hit a Japanese woman who suddenly starts to do the whole evil Japanese ghost lady thingee, appearing in photographs, reflections in windows, viewfinders on phones.  Turns out (*surprise!*) she’s a vengeful spirit out to get the husband and several of his lothario expatriate friends.  Seems co-dependency goes beyond the grave.  Largely by-the-numbers and chock of full of unsympathetic characters, most of whom get exactly what’s coming to them.    With a few “name” actors more than most (Joshua Jackson, “Heroes” James Kyson Lee), this is still pretty much exactly what you expect this kind of movie to be.  Woodchuck sez, “Skip it.”
