Eye Candy #174 - "Second in Command" (The Damme #1)
Second In Command: "It's like 'Die Hard'...in a building!" Every once in a while, you get in the mood for some Damme - low IQ, cliched plot, and lots of violence. Sure, there are exceptions to the Damme Rule ("Timecop" for example), but most follow the same revenge/wronged man/wrong place wrong time/him versus the world formula and it's seemed to carry him along fairly well. And you probably didn't know (or care) that the Damme continues to release movies direct-to-DVD. But "Second in Command" is no exception to the formula. Van Damme is Sam Keenan, the newly-arrived second-in-command in a European hellhole du jour. Shortly after his arrival (we're talking minutes here), everything starts to go all pear-shaped and it's up to the Damme to save the lives of all the embassy staffers, random Americans stuck in Kerblackistan (or wherever it is), and foreign diplomats holed up in the embassy. So it's Keenan and 15 marines against something like 350 bad guys. Utterly mindless with lot production values, it was EXACTLY what I expected it to be, so mission accomplished there. Woodchuck sez, "Lower your expectations...like REALLY low...and you may enjoy this."
