Eye Candy #169 - "Cloverfield"

Cloverfield: Really a great, great movie. Seriously One of the most effective horror movies I've seen in a while(as much for what you see as what you don't). Shot entirely from the perspective of one handicam for the the length of the movie, yes, it is jerky, and yes, it can be nausea-inducing as anything I've seen (except for perhaps "Blair Witch"). The plot: one fine New York evening, a monster from who-knows-where lays waste to Manhattan, destroying monument, bridge, building, and human. The perspective is that of a group of victims attempting to survive the attack of the monster, its offspring, and the now-broken landscape. Suspenseful, frightful, and well-paced, this is a screaming fast 80 minutes of film and it doesn't overstay its welcome. Not heavy on exposition, but that's not the point (though the attention to detail is excellent). Exceeded my expectations. Woodchuck sez, "Check it out."
