Eye Candy #147 - "Heavy Metal Parking Lot"

Heavy Metal Parking Lot: Since I’m going to see Judas Priest in a few short weeks, it was recommended that I check out this documentary, set in the parking lot of a Judas Priest concert at the Capital Center in lovely Largo, Maryland in 1986. It’s composed of interviews and footage of the concertgoers, like a time capsule that when opened in the far-flung future, the recipients can’t hope but say, “Ohmigawd, how did we survive THAT?!” Just a few random observations from the film - we’ve got the 20-year-old Air Force recruit and his THIRTEEN-YEAR OLD girlfriend WHO WAS IN MIDDLE SCHOOL at the time (oh yes, they make out); big, BIG hair EVERYWHERE; mullets, mullets, mullets; kids on drugs, adults on drugs, adults and kids on drugs, dropping acid, cocaine, beer consumed from many brown bottles; way too many people in way too much zebra print clothing; lots of unattractive white men without shirts on; apparently there aren’t many dentists in Maryland, circa 1986, from the stellar bridgework in the crowd, and the Hispanic guys yelling “YOODAS PREES, NUMBAIR WUN!”; Never have I seen so many Camaros in one parking lot at one time. Funny, frightening, absurd, and way way way too real, this was definitely worth the view. Short (at 15 minutes), sweet, I am SO glad I’m seeing Judas Priest. Woodchuck sez, “I’M READY TO ROCK!!!”
