Eye Candy #143 - "Hot Rod"

Hot Rod: I know, I know, you're thinking "Why the heck did you give that steaming pile 3 stars?" Well, for a few reasons. The story of a failing stuntman Rod Kimble (SNL's Adam Samberg) and his desire to raise money to save his ailing stepfather (Ian McShane, who somehow rode his wave of "Deadwood" marketability into...this) so that he can kill him in a fight. No, I didn't write that incorrectly. Rod is going to raise money jumping over 14 buses, one more than Evel Knievel. And on his crew, he's got his idiotic friends, the obligatory cute girl, and his stepbrother...who also happens to be an idiot. But DANGGIT! I liked it. I would give it 3 stars just on the basis that it used the hair metal group Europe almost exclusively for the soundtrack. There are some dumb gags, but they are timed very well. I laughed more than I expected too. Woodchuck sez, "May be worth your while."
