Eye Candy #267 - "Righteous Kill"
Righteous Kill: This has to be one of the most disappointing films I’ve seen in a long time. A cop buddy/serial killer hodgepodge starring Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro as detective partners tracking down a serial killer who preys on criminals is slow, boring, graced by some over-the-top acting, and a ridiculous finale that drags on forever. That this was the best script that these two could manage to find to star in together is a failure on so many different levels, people should be fired because of it (starting with their agents). Pacino is barely given anything to do, relegated to a showy sidekick role, and when he does get something, he’s clearly just playing Vincent Hanna from “Heat” all over again (which featured infinitely better work between Pacino and Deniro because they were actually, you know, ACTING). Plodding, with supporting actors John Leguizamo, Carla Gugino, and even Donnie Wahlberg just out-and-out wasted. I’ve liked some of director Jon Avnet’s work in the past (particularly “The War”), but this is one of the worst films I’ve seen for 2008. It makes some of the Van Damme stuff look good. Woodchuck sez, “Skip it.”
